About the role

We’re looking for a Senior QA Automation engineer to join our Engineering team to build the QA Guild at Motorway. This job is incredibly important, as you’ll be working with engineers to decide where and what new automated tests are needed to best understand and surface information on new features and code.

This is a greenfield project where you will take ownership of parts of our automation strategy and figure out how we can evolve it going forward to ensure our platforms offer a 5star service.

Our tech stack:

We operate a JavaScript monostack, using the latest JS features heavily. We use Cypress, PostreSQL with Sequelize ORM and Redis databases. Out team uses Git flow of github, and we have an agile development process, allowing us to deploy new features multiple times a day.

Your main responsibilities:

  • Owning the automation efforts for the pillar and squad you’re assigned.
  • Moving between different automation frameworks when one or the other needs attention e.g. - Cypress, Datadog API tests, PACT.
  • Creating automation with fast feedback loops in mind.
  • Contributing to and driving the automation strategy for Motorway.
  • Collaborating with developers to have them contribute to the automation suite.
  • Demonstrating to squads and stakeholders the benefits of automation.
  • Taking your squad on the quality journey by including them in recolutions and the results of the testing.
  • Embodying the shift left mentality.
  • Helping the squad out when extra functional testing is needed.
  • Managing time between automation and other tasks.
  • Helping coach and mentor other automation testers with a view to line management in the future.

Requirements:

  • Experience in testing software within an agile environment. This includes understanding what roles and responsibilities that come with being a quality engineer.
  • Experience in functional/non-functional, exploratory and context-driven testing. This extends to knowing when to use different types of testing and being able to explain why.
  • Experience in creating test cases for automated testing, being an advocate for the inclusion of automation in the build process and bringing engineers onboard to taking responsibility of automation tests within the development lifecycle
  • Knowledge of modern development and testing practices, such as shifting left, quality engineering, CI/CD and cloud based technology.
  • Knowledge of agile development practices and a champion of them and know how to be flexible when required to balance quality and speed.
  • Being able to speak to a variety of people with different levels of technical, product and contextual knowledge about the state of quality they need to know.
  • Willing to learn and grow within a fast-paced environment.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with an interest in technology.
  • Self-driven, good communication, proud of your work, and a team player.

Bonus points:

  • Experience with Cypress as automation framework.
