Job Description:

In your role as Linux Systems Administrator, you will become a valued member of a dynamic and responsive team, working to design, implement and maintain enterprise grade IT systems (services, server, storage and network) along with our internal compute clusters, all of which underpin the services used by Engineering, Data Scientist and other functions within Featurespace. This role can be based remotely across the UK, however living within commutable distance to our Cambridge office is a definite plus. This is a full-time position with flexible working hours, but the team are also happy to consider flexible working options such as job sharing for the right candidate.

Day to Day

  • Ensure all systems are maintained, monitored and alerts are raised and handled appropriately
  • Collaborate with colleagues to automate platform support, processes, standards and tools
  • Write and maintain code for automating the creation of scalable/resilient systems/infrastructure/platform services
  • Design, implement, and maintain server, storage, network, and security infrastructure
  • Develop, implement, and test data backup and recovery, and disaster recovery procedures
  • Write and maintain clear, concise documentation and operational standards including service and infrastructure diagrams
  • Ensure global standards and best practices are adhered for systems
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues production environments

About you

Must haves:

  • Strong experience with Linux (Centos or equivalent)
  • Experience with Python, shell scripts and command-line tools
  • Prior experience using automation tools (Ansible, Puppet or Chef)
  • Understanding of immutable infrastructure and infrastructure as code concepts
  • Knowledge of containerisation and related orchestration technologies
  • Knowledge of the various services and capabilities of cloud computing platforms (AWS, GPC, and Azure)
  • Strong awareness of IT security and best practice
  • Strong verbal & written communication skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate across teams and organisations Great to haves:
  • Knowledge of infrastructure virtualisation such as Hyper-V or VMware
  • Experience maintaining OpenStack
  • Experience maintaining build system, source code management, TeamCity and GitLab services
  • Experience working with and in a highly secured technical environments
  • Knowledge of IP networking, DNS, and firewalling
  • Experience enterprise storage including ISCSI and SAN technology
  • Experience running and maintaining on-premise data centres and remote Colo facilities
  • Experience working in an IT environment that adheres to one of the following standards (PCI-DSS, ISO27001)
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Computer Science preferred) or equivalent experience
