Principal Data Engineer at Glean

Job Description:

Purpose

The Principal Data Engineer will help implement and refine the data strategy for Glean from a technical perspective. To achieve this you will work closely alongside the Head of Data and Systems and collaborate with broader architecture stakeholders within Glean. You will own and manage the data tech stack to ensure we have efficient data pipelines in place providing readily available data for analytics and other initiatives.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Technical leadership:
  • Work collaboratively with software engineering teams to understand and define application and platform data requirements
  • Constantly scanning the horizon for new technological developments in the field to see if they can be utilised at Glean
  • Mentoring and developing technical skills of team members Architecture:
  • Providing recommendations on data architecture and process improvements on an ongoing basis
  • Translating requirements into technical solutions
  • Implementation of architectural changes
  • Optimisations of the tech stack
  • Ensuring health of the data tech stack
  • Ensure congruence with organisation wide architecture
  • Making sure solutions and data technologies are in alignment with the data strategy and continually advancing the road map accordingly
  • Integrations and platform
  • Build and maintain pipelines using Python, SQL, and other technologies
  • Collaborate with Engineering Excellence to maintain and improve platform processes
  • Build integrations with source systems using available integration tools
  • Ensure data best practices are implemented on the platform

Skills

Technical skills:

  • Great knowledge of using cloud technologies like AWS, and GCP
  • Good experience in implementation of best coding practices using CI/CD
  • Experience and exceptional comfort with: Python and SQL
  • In-depth understanding of database structures and principles
  • Experience in building ETL/ELT pipelines

Soft skills:

  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Great at building relationships with peers and colleagues
  • Attention to detail
  • Confident in decision making
  • Effective communication
  • Desire to mentor members of the team

Experience

  • Strong data background
  • Understanding of data architecture and technologies
  • Experience with data warehousing methodologies, data lakes and implementation thereof

Ways of working

Whilst we love having people in the office, we do support UK remote working, hybrid working and office based employees. We do have expectations for all employees to be in a minimum of once a quarter for company events. We support part time working. Working arrangements would be discussed at interview.
