About the team:

The Matching team aims to enable Indeed Flex to balance Client and Workers' needs. We are building tools for decision-making and automated solutions to support the company goals. The team is responsible for designing and implementing intelligent, automated solutions, leveraging a wide range of algorithms to improve the quality of our matching and ranking logic: classifications, predictions, causal inferences, clustering, but also descriptive statistics, and simple heuristics with great visualizations!

About the role:

We are looking for our next engineering leader to join a rapidly growing team of backend engineers and data scientists. This is an opportunity to help create and define an engineering culture as we build out our team both locally and remotely. You will be responsible for managing a cross-functional engineering team to ensure delivery of high quality, robust marketplace algorithms and maintaining communication between the team and the wider company. You will also manage the career growth of the individual members of the team.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing the life cycle of the software development of the team, maintaining high quality, consistent output from each team member
  • Shepherd the career development of individuals on the team through continuous coaching
  • Guide your team in balancing short term results and long term investment, with appropriate focus given to high priority initiatives
  • Help your team understand how their work relates to company objectives
  • Coordinate with the Data-Engineering teams and Product Engineering teams to help your team anticipate dependencies, and to drive the adoption of the different technical deliverables
  • Identify skill gaps on the team and work to fill through training and hiring
  • Ensure all necessary parts of the business are aware of the state of projects and any issues that may arise

Requirements:

  • Experience working in a data-driven environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills: you’ll need to communicate - efficiently with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience in dealing with various data sources to fetch the data you need (currently: S3, Postgres, Redshift, Parquet files…)
  • Have demonstrated success in supporting the growth of previous direct reports
  • Be ready to help define and organize a strong engineering culture based on open communication and end to end product ownership

These are the skills you can expect to grow:

  • Strong understanding of statistical principles: power analysis, confidence intervals and statistical significance, differences between frequentist and bayesian A/B-tests...)
  • Experience in selecting and using the right tools to process data (eg. Jupyter Notebooks)
  • Experience working with time series: forecasting, anomaly detection…
  • Experience working with causal inference models is a plus
  • Experience working with marketplace data is a plus
