We’re looking for an experienced Lead Software Engineer to take on a key role leading the team working on our desktop, mobile and web products.

About the role

We’ve had an incredible 12 months growing the engineering team from 2 to 12, now we’re looking to take that to the next level with someone helping to lead our team, made up of Frontend, Backend, Mobile and Desktop engineers. You’ll be reporting to the CTO, helping to guide the strategy, growth and execution of the team.

A few of the things that you could be working on:

• Mentoring, managing and coaching engineers to grow their technical and soft skills
• Working on core features to drive the growth of our business
• Advanced R&D of new features or concepts in our product backlog
• Shaping the engineering roadmap for products and seeing them through from conception to delivery.
• As well as building these core consumer products, you’ll be managing, mentoring and helping to grow the frontend engineers in the team.

This is a hands on role, focussed on delivery and technical leadership where you will be coding the majority of the time.

On the frontend we’re using React, Next.js and TypeScript. On the backend we use Golang to serve RESTful and gRPC APIs running on Kubernetes. Our mobile apps have been built natively from the ground up using Swift and Kotlin. We use GitHub for version control and CI, Jira for tracking tasks and Slack for sending cat GIFs.

Responsibilities

• Being hands on and leading the team from the front
• Line management, mentoring and coaching of other engineers
• Helping define technical architecture
• Working closely with the product, marketing and sales teams to bring their visions to life
• Reviewing other engineer’s code, making suggestions and using them as teaching - opportunities for more advanced techniques.
• Be involved in the hiring process for new engineers
• Spotting the gaps in technical capabilities and filling them at the right time Requirements

This is the right opportunity for you if you have:

• 5+ years experience as a software engineer working with web technologies - HTML, - CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript and React
• 1+ years experience in an engineering leadership role with line management responsibilities
• Track record of delivering high quality consumer products
• Experience building engaged and high performing teams
• Experience interviewing engineers and assessing technical tasks for applicants
• Experience mentoring and helping level up other engineers
• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
• British citizenship or a pre-existing right to work in the UK
