Open ended contract of 35 hours per week

We are looking for an web application developer to join our team and contribute to teaching and learning in a world-leading centre of academic excellence.

Candidates should have experience building and maintaining web applications using web technologies such as HTML, PHP, CSS, and JavaScript. Applicants to this role should also have good knowledge of SQL. We are looking for an individual that can prioritise their own workload, working independently and as part of a team. Excellent communications skills and the ability to identify and understand user requirements are essential for this role. An understanding of accessibility, equality, and GDPR legislation is desirable. Candidates applying for this role should have experience with test driven development, and be comfortable using testing frameworks such as PHPUnit and tools like Selenium

The Opportunity:

The successful applicant will be part of a small team of web developers and will have the opportunity to work on both group and solo projects. We create custom web applications for the College of Medicine and Veterinary medicine and extensions for the institutions central virtual learning environment, Blackboard Learn. At present, we are part way through a multi-year migration project to move teaching and learning activities from legacy, classic ASP applications to new, custom built web applications written in PHP 7+ using the Laravel and VueJS frameworks.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Experience writing web applications using PHP 7+

  • Good knowledge of SQL

  • Experience with automated testing

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently
