Job Introduction

The BBC's Technology + Product groups offer a wide range of stretching, creative and impactful activities for talented people. We are a team building the future of the BBC while delivering TV, radio and online services to millions of people around the world every day.

This role sits within the BBC Audience Platform area, which is one of BBC’s biggest and most ambitious digital projects. Our aim is to personalise the online and mobile device experience and engage more effectively with our audience. We are responsible for providing account and recommendations services for our audience members, notification services and participation services (such as comments and voting platforms) and big-data warehousing, analytics and insights services.

You'll be part of a team transforming the BBC into a data-driven organisation supporting delivery of the BBC’s services such as iPlayer, News, Sport, Children, Weather, Radio and TV to millions of people.

We are central to the BBC's drive to provide a personalised experience for everyone that uses any of our online services or mobile apps. We do this by using an Agile approach and are quality driven - employing continuous integration (CI), pair programming, test-driven development (TDD) and clean code practices.

We are constantly learning and sharing knowledge and are part of an exciting community of developers that help and support each other via conferences, hack days and 10% time

Main Responsibilities

As a Mobile Engineer in the BBC Account team, you will develop libraries and services that provide authorisation, authentication and personalisation capabilities for all the mobile apps created by the BBC (e.g. iPlayer, Sport, News, Weather, etc.).

• Analysing and solving complex problems to deliver innovative products to our clients and users.

• Developing high-quality code, tests, documentation and scripts; ensuring they are understandable, maintainable and minimise risk.

• Supporting members of the team with mentoring, pairing, code reviewing and driving the adoption of best practices.

• Learning about new technologies and techniques and assessing their applicability and usefulness to our products and our clients.

• Providing support to other teams within the BBC with integration issues and problem-solving.

Our welcoming, supportive and remote-first team culture has grown organically from our shared values of high-quality user-focused products, collaborative knowledge sharing, accessibility, mentoring and coaching, pairing, flexibility, continuous improvement, personal growth, diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Are you the right candidate?

Above all else, we’re looking for passionate developers who are excited by what's happening in the mobile space, looking to challenge themselves.

You should have good mobile engineering skills and experience in an iOS development space, writing automated tests, seeing problems as exciting opportunities to innovate and go beyond expectations.

If you're a junior engineer looking to move to mid role, we'd love to hear from you!

If you're in a mid role and want to move into a senior role, we'd also love to hear from you!
