Job description

We are seeking a Cloud Operations Team Lead to help build out our growing DevOps engineering team. This is a leadership role with opportunity for further advancement in a fast growing company. We work on a variety of projects ranging from SaaS products and Blockchain technologies, to building out APIs and architecting backend tools. This is a fully remote position. In addition to the details outlined below, a successful candidate will have expert level understanding and experience in DevOps, will be self motivated, have a love for learning and new technology, and be able to lead and mentor others.

The ideal candidate will have a knack for problem solving and critical thinking. We are looking for someone with experience building scalable solutions, managing critical production environments, and interacting effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Although Cloud engineering / DevOps will be the primary area of focus, candidates will ideally have some experience and/or interest in learning one or more of the following technologies: Python, Node.js, Golang, PHP/Laravel, Vue.js, React/React Native.

Responsibilities

• Keep the team laser focused on our objectives and help to resolve any issues that may arise. • Show excellent judgement in architecting and planning applications and features at all stages of the project lifecycle. • Interact effectively with clients to determine project needs and develop solutions. • Attention to detail and the ability to consistently deliver quality work. • Take overall accountability for keeping the project clean and organized. This includes identifying next steps, clarifying unclear tickets, and breaking larger tickets into smaller and more manageable tasks. • Take professional accountability for getting things done. Do whatever it takes to make things happen, or give advance warning if things aren’t going well so we can arrange for help. • Understand successful concepts in UI, UX, design cleanliness, and design balance, and take appropriate action to resolve situations where minimum standards are not being met. • Take overall accountability for the quality of code we write on a project. • Take overall accountability for the stability of a project. • Ensure all team members on the project are clear on their tasks and have sufficient work for the day/week. • Run project meetings when a delivery manager / scrum master is not on meetings. • Review code carefully and provides constructive feedback. • Responsible for keeping a production deployment path clear, and ensure that they are not a bottleneck for deployments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Relevant experience as an information technology professional in roles such as a software developer and/or systems engineer, computer engineer, engineering lead, or technical team lead • Experience operating in a DevOps environment • Experience with infrastructure as code methodologies using Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, and Packer • Practice of modern software engineering, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and releasing • Experience with AWS, Azure, and/or Google public cloud in a production environment • Experience with developing secure cloud based applications • Experience designing, orchestrating, and deploying container based solutions using Docker and Kubernetes (Podman, crio/containerd, Docker swarm, and OpenShift experience would also be valuable) • Experience with and understanding of serverless frameworks using AWS Lambda such as AWS Serverless Application Model (SAM) or Chalice • Experience with continuous delivery tools and methodologies like GitHub, Jenkins, Travis CI, and agile development • Experience scripting (e.g., bash, Python) would be an added advantage • Experience with monitoring solutions such as CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, and NewRelic • Database concepts with the ability to build out database support in an AWS environment • Operating system administration in Linux/Unix • Network administration (VPC, DNS, load balancing, security groups) • Troubleshooting network and operating system level issues • Ability to work Eastern Standard Time hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
