The Opportunity

UKFast is currently looking for an experienced PHP Developer to join our eCloud product team, to help us deliver our cloud platform vision for the future. Reporting to the product team’s Senior PHP Developer, you will be instrumental in delivering our exciting and highly competitive eCloud product.

eCloud is the UK’s largest, high-performance, privately-owned cloud computing platform, built on enterprise grade technology from global partners including VMware, Cisco & HPE. Rivalling public cloud platforms for performance and value for money, eCloud is highly flexible and defence-level secure. Our bespoke solutions minimise the need for customers to rearchitect, streamlining their migration and enabling certainty of success.

Our orchestration and API layers power the end-to-end automation that takes a customer’s request for service and turns this into a fully virtual private cloud offering a scalable, secure and resilient hosting platform for our customers to deploy their applications.

Our eCloud product is responsible for a significant chunk of UKFast’s revenue – in many ways it is the business’s most important product. Our strategy will see this platform continue to grow with multiple important feature launches planned this year, including the enablement of a true hybrid cloud product set. You and your team will be responsible for this incredibly exciting part of our journey as a business.

Working in a highly collaborative team, you will design and develop scalable backend systems that provide a consistent and reliable experience through our APIs to integrate business logic and automation into the underlying cloud infrastructure.

Following Agile and Continuous Delivery principles, you will have full autonomy in the planning and execution of your tasks with a clear focus on the customer journey to deliver on a truly inspiring roadmap, pushing the technical boundaries of what is possible on a cloud platform.

In this role you will be working on one of the largest VMWare based cloud platforms in Europe, supported by some of the most innovative and exciting hardware vendors such as Cisco, Arista and HPE. What you will do

• Convert stakeholder requirements into technical requirements for delivery

• Work with the wider product team to ensure the roadmap is being delivered

• Develop code to a high standard that conforms to internal standards and common security standards

• Build APIs to unlock the product’s full potential to customers and internal teams consuming the products resources

• Work with other development teams to share learnings and improvements

• Be actively involved in proof-of-concept design and build

• Perform code reviews and assist other developers with their personal development

• Produce helpful and concise documentation

• Implement unit testing, CI/CD pipelines to improve the development cycle

What you will bring

• At least 2 years’ experience using Laravel/Lumen frameworks within a large codebase.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for team collaboration and customer engagement

• Relevant experience with building secure and scalable RESTful APIs that empower customers to self-manage services

• Appreciation for quality and beautifully written code with the ability to drive standards within a team

• A deep understanding of Microservice architecture and the benefits this brings to building scalable platforms

• Real world use of deploying to Public Cloud platforms so you understand things from our customer’s perspective

• Extreme attention to detail and quality – to ensure the services we provide for our customers do what they say every time

• Previous experience of building automation or APIs for a cloud platform would be beneficial

• Experience with MySQL, Redis and RabbitMQ and where / how these services are best utilised
