Job Description:

About the role:

As a Product Manager you will be responsible for leading services through the various life cycle stages following GDS standards & principles. You'll be excellent at translating user and business needs into a clear product strategy. You will use your knowledge of user needs and business goals to frame problems and set priorities for your delivery teams.

To succeed in this role, you should be a perceptive and creative leader and a reliable problem-solver. You will be able to understand how policy and/or technology constraints affect the development of your products, and how creating digital services benefits the user. Product managers can manage multiple products or a single product that is especially complex, high risk or sensitive.

At this level you:

  • May be asked to line-manage associate product managers and product managers
  • Have expert product management skills
  • May be involved in elements of programme management activity

Skills we are looking for:

  • You know how to coach and lead teams in Agile and Lean practices, determining the right approach for the team to take and evaluating this through the life of a project
  • You can demonstrate advanced understanding of design, technology and data principles
  • You can work with and challenge senior stakeholders
  • You know how to prioritise and mitigate constraints and can turn them into an advantage
  • You can adapt the approach depending on the constraints
  • You understand the marketplace, realising the benefit and persuading others that a product is the right one to use
  • You know how to successfully lead teams through the full product life cycle
  • You can contribute to the assessment of other teams, providing guidance and support as they move through the stages of the product life cycle
  • You keep abreast of industry best practice and can cascade ways of working
  • You know how to anticipate problems and how the defend against them at the right time
  • You can start to define and create approaches
  • You know how to get buy-in from the organisation
  • You know how to give direction on which tools or methods to use
  • You are experienced in meeting the needs of users across a variety of channels
