The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Principal Quality Engineer to join the Group Technology Quality Engineering team.

  • You're collaborative and pragmatic, representing Quality with good communication skills across Delivery/Engineering–able to work with Senior Leads across Quality and Engineering.
  • You enjoy coaching and mentoring other Engineers (Quality and Development), advocating best practices.
  • You have hands-on experience of test automation.
  • Defining and maintaining the automation tests for services, integrations, components/applications.
  • Understand how to apply automation best practice across Unit testing, contract/integration testing vs full end to end automated tests.
  • You have experience of testing APIs.
  • Platform experience to direct automation across environment stack (existing and new).


  • Define automation strategy and guard rails for engineering teams to operate within, promoting collaboration and driving adherence to quality standards and governance.
  • Drive new insights and initiatives to improve existing ways of working.
  • Confidently work with Senior Quality Engineers, Principal Engineers/Senior Engineers to support continuous improvement through Retrospective and feedback sessions.
  • Be comfortable holding engineering colleagues to account with regards to quality, and test activities.
  • Drive innovation and streamlining of overall testing processes.
  • Build strong rapport with Business stakeholders to gain context perspective and ensure alignment on priority/criticality of test coverage.
  • Work with other PQEs, Simulation Team and Engineers to build automation and quality into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Contribute to Tooling and Technology strategies, in line with Cloud and DevOps initiatives.
  • Leverage data/metric reporting to highlight trends and systemic issues.
  • Strive to embed consistency across the QE organisation and encourage alignment to core values and principals.

About You

  • You have experience of Agile methodology including practices such as Scrum or Kanban.
  • You have working knowledge of Jenkins, Git/GitLab, Jenkins, Jira, Confluence.
  • You have a good solid understanding of CI/CD practices and SQL and ideally are familiar with AWS or Docker.
  • You ideally have experience with microservices and simulation/mock libraries aswell as different Cloud environments, such as Azure, AWS, GCP.
  • You may have experience of (some/all) Big Data, Data Engineering, Data Quality, Data Reconciliation, ETL, Data Modelling and Data Pipelines, Security testing and ability to understand security concepts.
  • You could have Python experience. An understanding of Spark, and experience testing would be a bonus.
