Job Description:

Blackout is hiring a remote QA engineer to undertake native mobile app and web application testing for its groundbreaking infosec and compliance technology.

By limiting smart device functionality utilising situationally aware technologies, this also helps to minimise distractions at work and enables employees to improve their productivity, separating work from personal phone usage. Our technology will also protect school students from distracting and potentially harmful phone usage, for improved learning and safer play time.

We're forming a new team - bringing development in house in readiness for customer trials and product build out. Your work will be key to establishing our testing methods, tools and processes, plus - in time and with support, or sooner if you're ready - progressing to establish test automation as we grow.

It's an opportunity to both broaden and deepen your technical skills, growing into new responsibilities and challenges.

We're looking for

• Someone comfortable joining an early stage company, working across multiple products and code-bases • A collaborative mindset, working closely with developers, product owner etc. to ensure quality is 'baked in' to every part of the software development life cycle • Competent manual testing skills for Android and/or iOS, and for web applications • Familiarity with web browser testing, or ready to learn • Ability to analyse and document an issue or bug for escalation • A positive advocate for quality, and for upholding quality standards • Attentive to security and data integrity measures • Familiarity with issue tracking software

You may also bring, or like to learn, skills such as

• Implementing test automation, e.g. with Selenium or similar • Evaluating and implementing mobile app testing tools • Establishing test strategies, for end-to-end testing • Continuous integration management • Accessibility testing • Contract testing • Release management

Salary and benefits

• £50,000 - £65,000 joining salary • Opportunities for stock options, as an early team member • 25 days of holiday + bank holidays • Inclusive and flexible working - e.g. part-time or time-shifting requirements • A company device (MacBook Pro 14”, or similar) • Remote working, with occasional get togethers • An allowance to ensure you have a good working setup
