Backend Mid-Level Engineer at PetLab

Job Description:

Your day to day will look a little bit like this…

• Understanding the product, and recognising how technology can shape a business’s future
• Collaborating with tech lead and product and recommending technical solutions that satisfy functional and non-functional needs;
• Ensuring the platform is performant, secure, scalable, robust, reliable and high quality, well-tested code in the critical areas;
• Informing others of blockers and communicating technical limitations or implementation misuse;
• Championing and sharing best practices to improve the team and code over time.

What we’re looking for:

• 3 to 4+ years working as an engineer on backend technology specifically PHP;
• Experience with Doctrine and or Symfony
• Good experience with MySQL
• Excellent understanding and experience of programming languages and paradigms (object oriented, functional);
• Integration experience of different types of external API’s;
• Experience building quality, and highly scalable backend systems;
• Enthusiastic self-starter that will be able to work in a fast-paced environment;
• Proven ability to quickly build and maintain authentic relationships and trust with individuals.

• PHP 7/8 / Symfony

Desirable:

• A mature understanding of software engineering disciplines - including design, construction, testing, maintenance and process;
• A good understanding of object-oriented design and its applicable design patterns or principles;
• A good understanding of service-oriented architecture and event-driven applications
• Experience with CRM systems and marketing automation, payment processing and customer engagement.
