About the job

As a Developer Relations Engineer, you will help improve the security of open source software that Google relies on. Open source is widely used not only in Google, but throughout the infrastructure of the modern world. Although open systems are easier to inspect, in practice the complexity is very high and many key components lack the time and availability needed to make them trustworthy and keep them secure.

Our team is here to help make fundamental changes and improvements to the processes used for open source development by the majority of open source developers, so security is no longer an after-thought. In this role, you will directly help improve the security of a wide variety of critical and popular open source software, ultimately and fundamentally improving the wider open source ecosystem.

The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google’s products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.

Responsibilities

• Participate in developer tools, security, and/or programming language communities as a direct practitioner. • Work with engineering teams on developer strategies and narratives around security tools and features. • Provide technical contributions in the form of open source software, best practices, and design. • Create original content to inspire usage of open source security tools, leading to a more secure open source ecosystem. • Advocate for contributors and maintainers internally and influence the open source security strategy by working with internal software engineering teams.
