Principal Software Engineer

The Role:

We are seeking a talented and self-motivated Principal Software Engineer with extensive skills in designing and building applications in Java/JVM and a positive attitude towards cross-functional teams. You will be part of a cross-functional product development group using agile management and engineering practices. Although this role is primarily a Java engineer role, we would value someone who has experience in Node/ReactJS or has a wish to learn these technologies.

Key Tasks:

• Serve as acknowledged “go to” person on coding and technical issues.

• Work as part of a highly collaborative, cross-functional, agile product development team to design and develop new micro-services in our web application and improve existing functionality and performance

• Building a nimble, cloud-based JVM distributed architecture

• Integrate with wider enterprise systems using service-oriented architecture

• Encourage best practices and apply software engineering principles

• Write well tested, documented and peer-reviewed code

• Work with Product Managers and QA to ensure software is high quality and meets user requirements

• Training and mentoring more junior developers

• Help to grow the London teams by assisting with the recruitment of other developers and team members

Skills / Experience

• Expertise with Core Java Development experience

• MVC framework experience, e.g. Spring, Play!, Dropwizard or similar

• Experienced in developing RESTful web services.

• Agile experience with Scrum/Kanban/XP

• Software development process expert with agile engineering practices such as TDD, Pair Programming, Continuous Integration, automated testing and deployment

• A positive, constructive approach with an emphasis on collaboration and good execution

• Solid knowledge of architectural principles

• Advanced problem-solving experience
